Dateline: Oct.2, 2016 St. Agatha Ontario
The little town of St. Agatha was besieged today by 99 enthusiastic square and round dancers. The dancers from all over southern Ontario (from Toronto, Collingwood, Windsor, Hanover, Clinton, Guelph, Elora, Brantford, Kitchener, New Hamburg …) were lead by Tom Charlton, Jeff Priest and Andrea Priest. What a delight it was to see so many familiar faces – some we haven’t seen for four months!
For most of the afternoon, there were 8 squares on the floor whirling around to the enthusiastic calling of Tom and Jeff. Of course the same joy was present as Andrea cued the round dancers. What a fun way this was to raise money for Convention 2018!!
During the afternoon, delicious snacks (cookies, cupcakes, brownies, tea and coffee) were generously provided by the Convention committee. The tasty treats were very inviting and we might have gone back more than we should have. To the bakers, thank you from all who enjoyed your delightful creations.
There were 6 couples at the dance dressed in high voltage, fluorescent T-shirts – complete with a Convention 2018 advertisement on their backs. One couldn’t miss seeing them! Halfway through the afternoon, Tom Charlton put this group of well-trained dancers through their paces as they did a demo dance for us with a “square” of 6 couples. These same dancers put on a demonstration at the Regina Convention to advertise Convention 2018, which we (SWOSDA) are hosting. To these dancers, from all of us, thank you for all that you have given to promote Convention 2018.
All too soon 5 o’clock rolled around and we had to say our good-byes. But true to fashion, willing hands pitched in to put chairs and tables away, making the hall cleanup easy. I never tire of telling people of the good nature of square dancers. Dancers don’t have to be asked twice and often they don’t have to be asked at all to get a hall cleaned up. You are amazing.
If you missed out this time, don’t worry! There will be more opportunities like this in the future. So keep your eyes and ears open.
To Tom, Jeff and Andrea – you were a pleasure dance to. So professional, so helpful and so entertaining. Thank you!
